Computing
Computing Intent Statement
At Berkswell C of E Primary School, our Computing curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to shine as confident, creative and responsible digital citizens. Rooted in our school vision of Love, Togetherness and Aspiration, we aim to nurture pupils who use technology with curiosity, compassion and purpose. We believe that every child, regardless of their starting point, should have the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate fully in an increasingly digital world.
Our curriculum is inclusive by design, ensuring that pupils with SEND, EAL or disadvantaged backgrounds can access and succeed in Computing. We use adaptive teaching, scaffolds, visual supports, structured modelling and assistive technology to remove barriers and enable all learners to make meaningful progress. Every child is valued, supported and encouraged to recognise their digital strengths and celebrate their achievements.
Computing
Computing at Berkswell equips pupils with secure computational thinking, digital literacy and creative media skills. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils learn to solve problems, think logically, design and debug programs, and use technology to express ideas. We encourage collaboration, perseverance and respectful communication, reflecting our commitment to Togetherness and the belief that we learn best when we learn with and from one another.
We want pupils to see themselves as capable, imaginative and responsible users of technology. Through purposeful, engaging and ambitious learning experiences, pupils develop the confidence to explore digital tools, take creative risks and apply their skills across the wider curriculum. This reflects our aspiration for every child to recognise their potential and use their digital talents to make a positive contribution to the world.
Online Safety
Online Safety is woven throughout our curriculum and taught explicitly to ensure pupils understand how to navigate the online world safely, respectfully and responsibly. We teach children to show Love and respect online, understanding how their actions affect others and how to build positive digital relationships. Our curriculum empowers pupils to make informed choices, recognise risks, manage online challenges and seek help when needed. We work closely with families to ensure a shared understanding of safe online behaviour, strengthening the partnership between home and school.
By the time pupils leave Berkswell C of E Primary School, they will be confident, reflective and responsible digital citizens. They will possess the technical skills, critical thinking and moral understanding needed to thrive in a digital world - ready to shine, contribute and use technology to make a positive difference.
