Identification and Support for SEND
We recognise that high-quality teaching is the foundation of effective support for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Class teachers are responsible and accountable for the progress and development of every pupil in their class and play a key role in identifying and responding to individual needs, supported by the SENDCo, school leaders and, where appropriate, external professionals.
We believe that strong partnerships with parents and carers are essential in securing the best outcomes for children and young people with SEND. We work collaboratively with families to ensure they are fully involved in decision-making and support planning. We also value the views, wishes and aspirations of our pupils, ensuring that their voices are heard and taken into account when reviewing and developing provision. Through this collaborative approach, we aim to enable every child to achieve their full potential and participate fully in school life.

Solihull’s Local Offer for Special Educational Needs
Under the Children and Families Bill which becomes law in 2014, Local Authorities are required to publish, and keep under review, information about services that they expect to be available for children and young people aged 0-25 with disabilities and Special Educational Needs. This is called the Local Offer. The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for professionals in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area.

Berkswell CofE Primary School’s Local Offer
The information on this page serves as Berkswell CofE Primary School’s Local Offer. It details the provision and leadership of SEND within our school and the procedures that we use to support our children.
Pupils are identified as having SEND where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, that is provision different from or additional to that normally available to pupils of the same age.
These difficulties are classified into 4 key areas of need:
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Social, emotional and mental health difficulties
- Sensory and/or physical needs.

Once a child is placed on the SEND register they will be supported using a wide range of intervention depending on their need. The document below details the interventions that are used within our school at all stages of the SEND register.
Additional Advice for Parents
The child’s class teacher will work closely with parents at all stages in his/her education and should be the first port of call in case of any difficulty. The school will provide information about the Solihull SENDIASS Service to all parents of children with special educational needs. Parents of any pupil identified with SEN may contact the Solihull SENDIASS Service for independent support and advice using the following contact details:
